Coventry named UK’s most driver-friendly city

Coventry has been named the UK’s friendliest city in a new study. Online used car retailer Cinch analyzed data from 25 major UK cities, looking at average fuel prices, EV charging infrastructure, available parking and congestion levels.

Coventry just beat Southampton and Plymouth in the final standings. The average cost of parking in Coventry was set at an affordable £1.34 and the total number of hours lost in congestion during peak periods per driver was 45 hours – both relatively low compared to other cities.

But Boffins said it was the EV charging network that made Coventry stand out. With 499 chargers per 100,000 people, the rate was more than twice that of second-place London, which has 221 per 100,000 people.

Cinch Motoring editor Sam Sheehan said all the top cities offered a combination of factors that made life easier for drivers every day. “Looking at what matters most to modern drivers – gas prices, congestion rates, parking availability and price, and EV chargers per 100,000 people – we created an index to determine the best overall performance, with each city having assigned a score between zero and 100. in relation to these values.”

“Our results show how cities can become more driver-friendly, highlighting some of the best examples across the UK.” Not surprising given Coventry’s history as the heart of the British car industry. While the city has been home to Hillman, Triumph, Humber and Daimler, it still plays a key role in the nation’s automotive sector.

Jaguar Land Rover still has its design and engineering center at Whitley, and LEVC manufactures London’s iconic black cabs at Ansty Park.

The most visible expression of this motoring heritage would be either at the Transport Museum or at the annual Motofest, where parts of the inner city ring road are closed to allow gas stations to show off their powerful machines.
