John Mousinho slams Portsmouth ‘ridiculously poor’ as Leeds United clash looms

John Mousinho criticized his Portsmouth side for playing “ridiculously poor football” during a 4-0 friendly defeat at Wycombe – less than two weeks before their Championship opener against Leeds United.

It was Pompey’s first defeat in pre-season friendlies against their toughest opposition yet, with wins against Gosport, Havant and Waterlooville and Bognor Regis preceding Saturday’s defeat as they continue their preparations for the trip to Elland Road on August 10. .

Played over two 60-minute periods at the Blues’ Hilsea training ground, a frustrating afternoon for the newly-promoted side did little to fill manager Mousinho with confidence heading into the clash at Leeds next month.

“There aren’t too many positives to take, apart from the fact that it’s a fantastic time to lose a game like this, with a few weeks to go in the season,” an irritated Mousinho told The News.

“Apart from the result, the performance is the biggest thing for us, we really haven’t been there and it’s a wake-up call for us going into the season. I thought both our teams were very poor.

“It’s a really good time for that to happen rather than us going through next week and then it’s all set to go into the Leeds game.

“We all talk about pre-season friendlies and how they mean nothing. It doesn’t mean anything in terms of results, but performance certainly does. You can’t turn it on and off and then go to Elland Road and get something out of it.
