John Mousinho slams Portsmouth ‘ridiculously poor’ as Leeds United clash looms

John Mousinho criticized his Portsmouth side for playing “ridiculously poor football” during a 4-0 friendly defeat at Wycombe – less than two weeks before their Championship opener against Leeds United.

“There aren’t too many positives to take, apart from the fact that it’s a fantastic time to lose a game like this, with a few weeks to go in the season,” an irritated Mousinho told The News.

“Apart from the result, the performance is the biggest thing for us, we really haven’t been there and it’s a wake-up call for us going into the season. I thought both our teams were very poor.

“It’s a really good time for that to happen rather than us going through next week and then it’s all set to go into the Leeds game.

“We all talk about pre-season friendlies and how they mean nothing. It doesn’t mean anything in terms of results, but performance certainly does. You can’t turn it on and off and then go to Elland Road and get something out of it.

“There are a lot of learning points. Staff can dissect it and say “Here are the reasons why I didn’t get what I needed to get out of this in terms of performance.”

“If we were 4-0 down and played well I wouldn’t have cared, sometimes in these games we are not organized from set plays, they are sad here and there, so we might not you think we’re as nice as we need to be. But none of those things were excuses for the way we played over 120 minutes.”
