New video shows violent scenes moments before a police officer hit him in the head

New video has emerged from Manchester Airport of police officers being punched just moments before an officer was filmed kicking a man in the head.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officer was suspended on Thursday after the initial footage was widely shared on social media, leading to protests in Rochdale and Manchester city centre.


However, new images, posted by the Manchester Evening News, show the incident taking place in a Terminal 2 car park.

Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham urged people to “step back” and allow authorities to carry out their investigations.

In the footage, three police officers appear to walk through a group of people towards a man, dressed in light blue, standing in front of a machine. An officer appears to grab the man’s hands in an attempt to detain him. After breaking free, he threw a series of punches at the three officers.

The male officer then appears to push her head down as her two female colleagues stand by him. Several people in the group then head to the scene.

In light of the new footage, Akhmed Yakoob, the lawyer said to be representing the family involved in the incident, said he “does not promote violence”.

He added: “I was behind the de-escalation of the whole situation, I told the protesters at Rochdale police station to go home. I attended a protest in Manchester city center where protesters were threatening to stop the trams. I urged them. not to do that and I reassured them and they went home No, we want justice for the family and it will happen”.

The mayor said the incident took place in three stages, with an earlier dispute taking place on a plane before the footage was seen by the public.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are investigating and appealing for witnesses in relation to three incidents which took place on the evening of Tuesday 23rd July in Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport.

The first incident is an altercation between passengers on Qatar Airways flight QR023, which arrived at 7.20pm. The altercation may have taken place during the flight or afterwards in the T2 baggage hall.

The second incident is a violent altercation involving members of the public in the T2 Starbucks at approximately 8:22 p.m.

The third incident is the attack on three police officers which took place in the area of ​​the payment point of the T2 car park at 20.28. As a result, the three officers suffered head injuries, including a broken nose.
