£50m defender Anthony Gordon – three moves Liverpool can complete before Ipswich opener

Liverpool are just three weeks away from the start of the Premier League campaign and have yet to make any new signings. The Reds begin their top-flight season at Ipswich Town on August 17.

The trip to Portman Road will mark Arne Slot’s first competitive encounter since being appointed Liverpool’s new head coach. The 45-year-old is currently in the Reds’ pre-season squad in the United States and is busy assessing the players at his disposal.

However, Slot has yet to work with his full squad, with many still on holiday after playing for their countries at Euro 2024 and the Copa America. Decisions on the transfers are expected to be made once the Reds return from their trip across the Atlantic early next month.

Liverpool have until September 2 to complete their transfer business, but may want to land a few bids ahead of their opener against Ipswich. The ECHO takes a look at some transfers the Reds may want to complete ahead of their trip to Portman Road next month.

Anthony Gordon

The links that say Liverpool are interested in signing Anthony Gordon are not going away. The Reds rejected the chance to sign the Newcastle striker in June after it emerged the St James’ Park club had offered a deal which would have seen Jarell Quansah head the other way.

Liverpool have since continued to be linked with the signing of Gordon with a new wide forward rumored to be on the agenda this summer. It remains to be seen how much Newcastle would demand for Gordon to leave the club for a one-off fee rather than as part of a trade deal.

Liverpool already have Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo who can play on the left wing, but there has been uncertainty over Diaz’s future this summer. If the Colombia international is to leave, then a replacement was expected to be signed, with Gordon a possible option.

Gleison Bremer

Center back continues to be an area of the squad that Liverpool are frequently rumored to be interested in strengthening. Speculation has been swirling for the past two years and the departure of Joel Matip this summer means there could be a void in the squad that needs to be filled.
