Touching reason why Nuneaton hospital unit has been chosen as the new mayor’s charity

The Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth has a special reason for choosing a hospital unit as his chosen charity. Councilor Bill Hancox revealed that the Breast Care Unit at George Eliot Hospital will benefit from his year in office.

The history-making mayor, who is the first person to be the borough’s first citizen three times, explained why the facility is so important to his family, including his wife, the mayor, Sheila.

“There is a long history of breast cancer in Sheila’s family,” he said. “Sheila was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and received excellent care and support. In January 2022, she required further surgery and was once again cared for by the dedicated staff of the Breast Care Unit.

“At such a difficult time for the NHS and healthcare, it would be a real privilege to be able to help raise funds for the unit and raise awareness of breast cancer at the same time. Eliot NHS Trust how much we value them.”

It will bring in much-needed funds for the unit at the hospital, which is celebrating 75 years. Vital to the local community, the facility has seen its capacity doubled and has its own radiologist to improve care.

Claire Nutting, senior nurse for breast care at the unit, said: “We care for our patients in such an important part of their lives and this call will allow us to do much more to ensure they receive the most good care we can provide. their.

“It will allow us to develop our service and ensure we are able to provide a better environment at every stage of patient care, including the development of a comfortable counseling area, which unfortunately we cannot offer at present.”

Fundraising events will be held for the civic appeal between now and May. A special Just Giving page has also been set up to make it easier for people to donate.
