Bristol City and Bristol Rovers find out key dates of the summer transfer window alongside their EFL rivals

The summer transfer window will open on Friday 14 June and close at 11pm on Friday 30 August, the EFL have confirmed that supporters of both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers want to see which new players they sign their club and fear who will be sold in preparation. for the new season.

This will give all EFL clubs the best part of eight weeks to assemble their squads before a ball is kicked, with the 2024/25 campaign due to start on the weekend of August 10, but the new Sky Sports TV deal it means the first set of games will kick off on Friday, August 9, with two from the Championship and one each from League 1 and League 2. However, clubs will have a further three weeks after that to complete any necessary entries and exits.

How the new TV deal will affect City and Rovers’ opening weekends will not be confirmed until after the pair announce their fixtures for the new season, which is currently scheduled for Wednesday June 26 at 9am, but their first league games of the season will be televised on Sky in some capacity.

Both clubs have work to do following the release of their retained lists, but Rovers are expected to be the busier of the two clubs over the summer, having lost 13 players in the form of seven releases and six loanees returning to their parent . clubs.

New director of football George Friend and Gas’ new recruitment structure have a major task ahead of them during their first summer in their respective roles as manager Matt Taylor looks to assemble a squad in his image after Rovers finished 15th in the League in the last quarter.

In BS3, City swapped Nigel Pearson for Liam Manning just weeks before their city rivals signed Taylor after sacking Joey Barton, but they don’t require such a major overhaul ahead of season 10 consecutively in the championship. In an interview with BBC Radio Bristol earlier this week, the Robins head coach said he would like to bring in a full-back alongside a physical and creative striker of the No10 type, with the technical director very much responsible for making that vision a reality.

City have released three senior players in Matty James, Andreas Weimann and the recently retired Andy King, while contract talks are ongoing with midfielder Joe Williams.

Because of the way the calendar works, the transfer window will close two days earlier than last year, but the deadline remains 11pm. That proved to be a problem for Rovers last year as Gas narrowly missed out on a club-record deal to re-sign striker Jonson Clarke-Harris from Peterborough United with seconds to spare on deadline day.
