M5 delays for two hours after car overturns near Bristol, causing 14 miles of traffic

There are two-hour traffic delays on the M5 after a vehicle overturned near Bristol earlier this afternoon (Sunday 28 July). National Highways said there is 14 miles of congestion on the road leading north.

The accident happened on Avonmouth Bridge and emergency services attended the scene. All traffic was stopped, but the highway has since fully reopened.




However, heavy traffic remains on the northbound carriageway. Motorists should avoid the stretch of motorway between junction 19 for Portishead and junction 18 for Avonmouth.

“The previous incident involving a collision/overturned vehicle has now been removed. 120 minutes of approach delays remain – 14 miles of congestion.”
