Steve Evans is looking for subtlety at Sheffield Wednesday amid Rotherham United’s bold claims

The Rotherham United manager has made a cunning bid at Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the new season.

Sheffield Wednesday have made strides this summer and are in a much better position compared to this time last year.

S6 is buzzing with excitement ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season, with the Owls confident they will have a manager who can get the best out of their current squad, as well as recent high-profile signings leading to fans’ favorite Josh Windass of Sheffield Wednesday, issued bold promotional claims ahead of the new campaign.

Windass, who signed a new contract to keep him at Hillsborough for next term, was also joined by Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer in committing their futures to the club.

However, the feel-good factor at Sheffield Wednesday hasn’t stopped the buzz from the east side of South Yorkshire, with Rotherham United manager Steve Evans drawing comparisons between the Owls and the Millers.

After returning to his role as Rotherham United boss, Evans drew bold comparisons of the Millers to both Sheffield Wednesday and United.

According to The Star, Evans said: “I love playing against Sheffield clubs. Why wouldn’t you? We always have a point to prove.

“We’re always that little puppy that looks up to the big boys. It’s great. That’s no disrespect to anyone. It’s the nature of the size of the clubs. We are very proud of who we are, we are very proud of our history.

“Where do we sit at the club levels? We have no debt, we have a fantastic stadium, a fantastic owner and fans who would die for our club. We are in very good shape. I don’t think that can be said of the big clubs in Sheffield. But both are great, traditional clubs.”

Sheffield Wednesday still not in ‘good form’

It’s clear that in the early stages of the 2023/24 Championship campaign, Sheffield Wednesday have been in for a turbulent time, both on and off the pitch.

Former Owls boss Xisco Munoz failed to pick up a single league win during his short tenure and unrest prevailed among pockets of supporters.

However, since the arrival of Danny Rohl, Sheffield Wednesday fans have never been more optimistic about their future.

The results have made it clear that Rohl is the best man to get something out of Sheffield Wednesday’s current crop of players and Dejphon Chansiri has certainly backed the German boss this season.

Sheffield Wednesday fans couldn’t even dream of this position compared to 12 months ago, suggesting that League One side Rotherham United are not in as good a form as the Owls.
