Leeds United tied down striker Mateo Joseph to a new contract in January and the Spaniard is being tipped to prove why he was a great deal.

Leeds’ youth team didn’t have what it takes to see out the promotion race last season as they finished third and lost in the play-off final.

That said, with an extra year of experience, the players are hoping for a big season as one of the teams to make another run at the championship.

Leeds striker Mateo Joseph is eager to take part in the Championship

There was a massive clamor from fans to see more of Mateo Joseph during the game last season, a sub who changed the dynamic of several games from the bench as well as harassing Chelsea’s defense in the FA Cup yet from the beginning.

However, after a season of mostly cameo appearances, he is set for more involvement in the 24/25, as he recently spoke to the club’s official website:

“I’m feeling very well. I feel strong and sharp and can’t wait for the season to start to be honest.

“We’re looking at some details on how we can improve our game and try to be perfect in every aspect. We can’t rest until that happens.

“To be honest, I feel ready and I feel up to the challenge. I’m looking forward to it because I’ve prepared.

“Last season was a learning season for me, I guess. We had some great moments and some not so good moments.

“Everything has given me the things I need to achieve my goals – my individual goals and team goals.

“We worked hard all season and during the summer. I have worked hard all my life and now I feel ready to step up and be ready for the challenge.

“I think that’s what I want most in my life right now, to be successful in this team. Everyone is hungry to do well this season.”

Do Leeds have the best full-back pairing in the league?

The contract deal between Leeds and Joseph could be worth millions of euros

It remains to be seen whether or not Farke wants to introduce Joseph into a starting role for Leeds, or stick with a combination of Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe.

What is clear is that the striker will only improve with more exposure in the Championship, with more and more goals to come.

Looking back on January, when Leeds managed to secure the youngster on a new long-term deal that runs until the summer of 2028, it could turn out to be some of the best business they’ve done in 2024.

It keeps the 20-year-old at Elland Road for the foreseeable future and if he progresses as many expect with more game time, he will be worth millions to the club.

Selling him should be out of the question for some time, but his promotion contribution could be worth much more.
