Flash Flood Warning for Birmingham Metro: Alabama Weather Blog

A large and dangerous storm is moving through metro Birmingham right now. It has an enormous amount of very dangerous lightning and torrential rain. Be in a safe place as it passes. If you must be outside, stay away from flooded areas.

It moves east. Storms extend back through Tuscaloosa and into Sumter, Greene and Marengo counties.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Southeast Jefferson County in central Alabama…
Northwestern Shelby County in central Alabama…

* Until 745 PM CDT.

* At 444 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automatic rain gauges are indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain in the warning area. Between
2 and 3 inches of rain fell. Additional rainfall amounts of
1 to 3 inches are possible in the warning area. Flash floods are
ongoing or expected to begin soon.

DANGER… Flash flooding from thunderstorms.

IMPACT… Flash flooding of small, urban streams and creeks
areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as
other areas with poor drainage and low lying areas.

Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Bessemer, Homewood, Pelham,
Mountain Brook, Trussville, Helena, Hueytown, Irondale, Leeds,
Moody, Fairfield, Pleasant Grove, Tarrant, Midfield, Brighton,
Indian Springs Village and Lipscomb.
