The Royal Cornwall Hospital is putting measures in place after a ‘small’ increase in Covid cases

Cornwall’s main hospital has put temporary measures in place following a “small” increase in Covid-19 cases. The Royal Cornwall Hospital, also known as Treliske, has restricted visitors to some areas of the hospital while these measures are in place to control the spread of the virus.

However, the hospital trust said these restrictions are being considered on an individual basis. He asked anyone wishing to visit someone in hospital to contact the relevant ward first.

Since the coronavirus pandemic, it has not been unusual to see an increase in cases from time to time within the community, and the hospital has confirmed that the current level of cases is not a cause for concern. Anyone experiencing Covid-like symptoms is also encouraged to stay at home to minimize the spread of the virus.

One distraught patient, who is currently at Treliske and did not want to be named, told CornwallLive that patients were told to wear masks and could not use the showers until they had been properly sanitized. They added that patients in their ward were told they could not have any visitors inside.

A spokesperson for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We have a small number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, which is consistent with a current increase in Covid-like symptoms in the community.

“We are following our usual infection prevention and control practice, which means we may have temporary restrictions on visits to some areas, but these are always considered on a compassionate and individual basis. If you plan to visit someone in hospital, please call the ward before you leave.

“The advice from the Cornwall Public Health team is, as always, to stay at home if you are unwell. That way you’ll get better sooner and won’t spread the virus to many other people. Be sure to take up the offer of a booster shot this fall if you are also invited by your surgeon.”
