The highly-rated Leeds United youngster signs his first professional contract

Promising defender Alfie Cresswell has signed his first professional contract with Leeds United. The centre-back committed his future to the Championship club today, penning a three-year contract.

Cresswell impressed for Rob Etherington’s Under-18 side in the league last season and was instrumental in the club’s run to the FA Youth Cup final. The 17-year-old made his U21 debut at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, helping Scott Gardner’s side to wins against Derby County and Newcastle United in Premier League 2.

A United statement said: “Everyone at Leeds United would like to congratulate Alfie on signing a professional contract with the club and we look forward to seeing his continued development at Thorp Arch.”

The Whites last week confirmed five professional contracts for scouts: Reuben Lopata-White, Joe Richards, Dan Toulson, Marley Wilson and Connor Douglas. Harry Christy, Joe Snowdon and Luca Thomas have also extended their stay at Elland Road. An offer was also made to Cody Drameh, but the right guard is expected to turn it down and sign elsewhere.

Eleven players were confirmed to be released last month on the club’s retained list: Charlie Allen, Luke Ayling, Lewis Bate, Keenan Carole, Stuart Dallas, Cuba Diboe, Scott Godden, Ian Poveda, Morten Spencer, Harvey Sutcliffe and Dani van den Hill. Northern Ireland U21 international Allen is said to be training with Northern Irish club Linfield to maintain his fitness levels while he looks for a new club.
