Live: Fire crews battle huge Bude blaze

Fire crews are tackling a huge blaze that broke out in the early hours of this morning in North Cornwall. The fire started at a shop in Bude before 3.30am today (Monday 29 July).

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Bude rushed to Stibb Road in the town early this morning and found a well-lit kitchen area. At last count, six fire engines were at the scene, the CFRS said, with an incident command unit, two full-time officers and a welfare vehicle.



Crews are still on the scene battling the flames, firefighters said in a statement posted online. We will bring you more updates on this fire in the live blog below.

Full CFRS statement as fire continues

At 03:35, Critical Control began receiving numerous 999 calls reporting a fire at a commercial building in Bude.

Two engines were immediately mobilized from Bude, together with a full officer for support. On arrival the first machine requested additional assistance from two other machines which were mobilized from Holsworthy and Hartland.

Firefighters on scene reported a kitchen area was well lit and, wearing breathing apparatus, used a drum jet and safety jet to begin extinguishing the fire.

A short time later, two more machines were requested from the incident commander, which were mobilized from Delabole and Launceston.

In total there are now 6 appliances, 2 full time officers, an incident command unit from Launceston and a welfare support vehicle from Torpoint.

Crews are making good progress and remain on scene at this time.
