Planning Cornwall: Hundreds of new homes among latest proposals

Plans for more than 300 new homes in Wadebridge, 25 new rental properties in Downderry and the demolition of a Bude hotel to make way for 39 retirement flats are among the latest planning applications submitted to Cornwall Council.

Each week over 100 applications are validated by Cornwall Council and we have selected some of the most exciting proposals. All planning applications submitted to the council must be validated and are available for public inspection. Anyone is also allowed to submit comments on the applications – either in support or objection.

Most applications are decided by council planning officers under delegated powers. However, some applications will be referred to elected councilors who sit on planning committees. No dates have been set for the determination of the planning applications below. These can be viewed by accessing the planning portal on Cornwall Council’s website.

The city could get 325 new homes

A draft masterplan showing the layout of the 325-property development in Wadebridge

A town in Cornwall could get 325 new homes – including up to 98 affordable properties. Wadebridge LVA LLP has applied for a planning performance agreement with Cornwall Council to put the ball on an application to build houses on land west of West Hill, Wadebridge.

The applicant has an agreement with the land owners to promote this site for residential development. A planning report says the proposals will form a “sustainable extension of the existing settlement, contributing to the unmet need for both market and affordable housing”.

The site has an area of approximately 17.29 hectares and consists of six agricultural fields which are bounded and intersected by hedges. The site is located to the south of West Hill, which is a continuation of the residential development from the city center to the east.
