Council approves redevelopment of Waitrose site with 353 new homes – South London News

The John Lewis Partnership (JLP) has been awarded planning permission last week to demolish and rebuild a Waitrose site with more than 300 new homes to rent.

The decision, taken by Bromley council’s Development Control Committee on Thursday, grants planning permission for 353 new homes – of which 30 will be ‘accessible“.

The new homes will be part of the redevelopment of the Waitrose store and the site next door Bromley South Station, to be renovated and expanded – with more than 70% of customer parking retained.

Councilor Alexa Michael, Chair of the Development Control Committee, said: “This development will make a vital contribution to much-needed housing in Bromley, while providing a significant boost to the local economy.

“The proposal is a clear net benefit to the borough and improves the local housing supply, which optimizes the use of land on this highly accessible brownfield site on the edge of Bromley town centre.”

Some residents opposed the scheme, including Bromley Town Ward councillors, but the majority of the 250 responses to the consultation were supportive, a council spokesman said.

Work is currently scheduled to begin in 2025, with construction expected to take 45 months.
