Britain braces for ‘final heat wave of the year’ in August with exact dates announced

An August heatwave could sizzle across Britain in mid-August – potentially the last blast of the hot year – early forecasts have suggested. WX Charts have been burning a volcanic red throughout August as warm weather looms.

The long-term forecast supports this, indicating that a more stable period is likely towards mid-August. The south and southeast of the country, as well as the eastern regions, will benefit the most from the favorable conditions and rising mercury.

The BBC warns between August 5 and August 19: “In August we should see a ridge of high pressure continue to build at times near or over the southern half of the UK. Low pressure systems should tend to track N Scotland from the vicinity of Iceland towards Scandinavia.

“That should mean occasional bands of rain moving in from the northwest as the Atlantic fronts come through. These are most likely to affect Scotland and Northern Ireland, and even here we shouldn’t see much more rain than average. The further south. and the further east you are, the greater the chance of longer periods of drought.

“Temperatures should rise a bit too, so much of England and Wales is likely to see above-average heat. With more unsettled conditions further north, Scotland and Northern Ireland could be closer to average overall.

“There is, however, a risk of frontal systems pushing further into the UK, which would mean a cooler and wetter period.” He adds, as he looks ahead to the final eighth month of the year: “By mid-August and into the second half of the month, we are most likely to see a continuation of similar patterns.

“So the high pressure should remain nearby, while the main low pressure track and frontal boundary remain at fairly high latitudes.”
