Police swarm popular Beckenham park after group of men ‘seen with knives’

A group of men were allegedly seen with knives in a popular park in Beckenham.

The incident happened at Croydon Road Recreation Ground at around 6.30pm on May 3.

Police attended and a man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

He has since been released following police enquiries.

No injuries were reported following the incident.

Police investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 6.30pm on Friday 3 May by members of the public who reported a group of men in possession of knives in Croydon Recreation Ground in Beckenham.

“Officers attended and a man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

“He has since been released under investigation.

“No injuries have been reported at this time.

“Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
