Woman’s body found in Leicester’s River Soar

A woman’s body was discovered in Leicester’s River Soar this morning. Leicestershire Police said they were called to the area off Marsden Lane in Aylestone shortly before 6.30am today (Monday, July 29).

East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene and the woman was pronounced dead. Her cause of death is currently being treated as unexplained.




Officers erected a blue tent at the scene early this morning, with police urging the public to stay away. The Great Central Way canal path was also closed between Kings Lock Cottage and the end of Sanvey Lane and Marsden Lane following the discovery.

In a statement, Leicestershire Police said: “Following a call shortly before 6.30am today (Monday, July 29), police attended the River Soar, off Marsden Lane, Leicester, after the body of a woman was discovered in the water.

“East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman’s death is currently being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.”

A force spokesman said the woman had yet to be formally identified. Inquiries are ongoing with police liaising with HM Coroner. All road and path closures were lifted later Monday.
