The Nottingham mum left with sewage pouring into her garden for days

A Nottingham mum has been left frustrated after sewage started seeping into her garden and ‘stank up the house’. Kerryann Matthews opened the back door of her home in Deepdale Road on Friday July 27 and was immediately hit by a “disgusting” stench.

She said: “There was just a really bad smell in the back garden and then the cover blew off and it started going everywhere.” The 34-year-old called Severn Trent about the issue but was told nothing could be done for three working days.

Stating: “It’s been happening since Friday now. They said it takes three working days. It’s all in my garden and it smells like the house outside.”

Kerry lives at the property with her five children, including her six-year-old son, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. They usually like to go to the garden together, but because of the sewage and the strong smell, they were unable to do so last weekend.

They were also unable to open the home’s windows because of the strong smell, which she says made the interior unbearably hot. Kerryann added: “He’s in a wheelchair so normally he goes out on the path but he can’t go out there because there’s sewage there.

“As soon as you open the back door you can smell it. The windows are all closed. I had to take him to my mum’s house, it’s a good thing she lives just up the road.”

Daniel Borst, Regional Waste Networks Leader at Severn Trent, said: “We are very sorry to hear about the issue at this property and understand how distressing any type of flooding can be. A crew has been dispatched to this address today (Monday 29 July) to investigate the cause and undertake a clean-up of the affected area.”
