Enfield man arrested and charged with felony possession of drugs and concealed weapon, deputies say

HALIFAX COUNTY, NC (WNCN) — A man was arrested for drugs and gun possession after deputies smelled a lingering marijuana odor during a traffic stop, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office says.

Shortly before midnight Saturday, Halifax County Deputy K. Taylor was on patrol in Enfield when a passenger car that committed a motor vehicle violation passed by. According to the deputy, when they initiated the traffic stop, the vehicle eventually stopped in the parking lot of a convenience store.

Upon receiving the identity of the driver, 41-year-old Tony Johnson of Enfield, the deputy said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car — leading to a search.
