Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish issues update on £100m Selhurst Park redevelopment

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish says the club remains “absolutely committed” to the £100m redevelopment of Selhurst Park.

Palace have been given the green light by Croydon Council to increase their home capacity to around 34,000 by rebuilding the main stand in 2018.

The work was originally scheduled to be completed in time for the 2021/22 season, but a series of delays, including land ownership complications and the Covid pandemic, mean that work on the stadium has not yet started.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have focused on the £20m redevelopment of their academy, the final phase of which is due to be completed early next year, with a similar refurbishment of the first team’s training ground underway.

Planning permission for the stadium project remains in place, but the club will have to submit additional information and amend some elements of its plans to comply with policy changes that have come into force in the four years since they were originally given the go-ahead.

“The redevelopment of Selhurst Park will exceed the £100m investment and I’m sure supporters can appreciate the scale, complexity and enormity of this project,” said Parish. “But it’s something we’re absolutely committed to.

“I would like to thank Croydon Council for their continued support which has allowed us to update the application since the planning permission resolution was issued.

“We very much hope to make significant progress in the coming months and keep supporters and stakeholders updated as we have more news.”
