Live: Empty historic home is on fire as the road is closed in both directions

A house fire broke out at a property off the Cribbs Causeway in Bristol this afternoon, forcing the closure of the A4018. Pictures and footage show smoke pouring from the building as firefighters tackle the blaze. We’ll keep you updated with our live blog below.


There are now major delays on the A4018 due to the fire. Traffic website Inrix reported: “A4018 Cribbs Causeway closed in both directions, delays due to building fire from The Football Club to Premier Inn.”

Inrix reported: The A4018 Cribbs Causeway in both directions has been closed due to fire in the building from The Rugby Club to the Premier Inn. Traffic is doing well.

“Avoid the area”

Avon Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to avoid the area. The update is:

We now have crews from Weston-super-Mare and Nailsea in attendance. A number of firefighters are wearing breathing apparatus and crews are using drum jets to extinguish the blaze.

Please continue to avoid the area where possible.
