Sheffield Eagles suspend head coach Aston

Sheffield Eagles have suspended head coach Mark Aston amid a Rugby Football League investigation into a medical compliance issue.

The Championship side also suspended doctor Mick Heys before the pair faced an operational rules tribunal.

Aston won the Challenge Cup with the Eagles as a player in 1998 and has been in charge of the South Yorkshire side since 2007.

“The club has taken steps to suspend Mark Aston and Mick Heys from their duties without fault pending the operational rules tribunal, with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.

“Interim arrangements to cover the suspended staff will come from within the existing coaching staff, both staff will be provided with social support during this time.”

The Eagles are third in the second tier, one point behind second-placed Toulouse.
