Coventry’s special education school has reached a key milestone

A development at a SPECIAL education school in Coventry has reached a key milestone.

The process concluded with the delivery of the redevelopment of the former Woodlands School.

The scheme will bring together provision which is currently delivered on separate sites by Woodfield School, which was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted earlier this year.

It will also create a further 200 new school places for SEND pupils in the city.

Coventry City Council’s Cabinet Committee will receive a report calling for a further £1.6m to deliver the project.

Dr Kindy Sandhu, cabinet member for education and skills, said: “Creating additional SEND provision is a key priority for the Council and this excellent scheme will help us achieve this.

“This project will transform and utilize a currently vacant listed education building, so I believe it is essential that we maximize and invest in our educational assets for the benefit of children and young people and the local community.

“The completion of this project will provide an educational environment fit for the future, offering a full range of facilities, including sports, to students with the ability to grow.”

The new school is expected to open by September 2025.
