Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey has announced Sebastian Walsh as the new boss of Leeds

The Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, today announced that Sebastian Walsh is to become the new boss of Leeds. In this role, he will help deliver the Bank’s ambitious plans for a more significant presence in the city, being responsible for the Bank’s growing operation in Leeds. Alongside our regional network of agencies, Sebastian will support engagement with stakeholders across the North of England.

This announcement follows the Bank’s recent commitment to have at least 500 staff based in Leeds by 2027.

Sebastian currently holds the position of Secretary of the Bank and will continue in this role, reporting to the Governor of the Bank as he currently is. He will take on additional responsibilities as Leeds boss later this year following his relocation.

Governor Andrew Bailey said:

“I am delighted that Sebastian Walsh will take over as head of Leeds, which will help deliver our ambitious plans for the Bank of England site in Leeds. Sebastian brings considerable experience to this role and is ideally placed to act as an ambassador for this important work and ensure we serve and represent the people of the UK.”

Sebastian said: “I am delighted to take on this role. The Bank of England serves all people in the UK and our growing presence outside London reflects this commitment. I look forward to working closely with stakeholders in Leeds and the North of England to ensure that our Leeds office plays its part in delivering the Bank’s mission to maintain monetary and financial stability.”

The headcount target will be met through a combination of voluntary internal relocations and new recruitment in Leeds. The bank will maintain its total headcount while expanding its headcount in Leeds. Work will continue with Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and local partners to establish the Bank’s presence in the city.
