Man shot dead in wheelchair in east Birmingham; 4 suspects wanted

A 62-year-old man in a wheelchair was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon just off 1st Ave. N., in East Birmingham.

The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. near 59th Street North between 1st and 2nd Avenue North.

The man was still in his wheelchair with grieving family members gathered nearby as he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police responded to the scene after receiving Shot Spotter alerts and a call from someone who said a person had been shot at the location.

According to Birmingham police radio communications, four suspects fled in a Chrysler 300. License plate cameras picked up the vehicle downtown and then into Inglenook.

As of 3:10 p.m., no arrests had been made
