Horror as cat mauled by ‘two banned dogs’ in driveway – leaving family with £3,000 bill

A family were left horrified after watching CCTV of two “banned” dogs mauling their cat in their driveway – and now face £3,000 in vet bills. Mog was attacked by a suspected XL Bully and Pitbull while standing outside their home in Rubery.

Mum Sarah Hewson said the animal, which came to them as a stray, had been part of their family for eight years because its owner could not be traced. After a feeding, Mog wandered over to sit in their driveway, where he was tackled by the dogs and dragged along the ground.

He fled, causing panic among the family, who had no idea what had happened until they saw the heartbreaking footage from their car. After miraculously surviving the ordeal on July 20, he was left with serious injuries and now has to be tube-fed “like a newborn”.

The family, who pay for insurance for their three other cats, have launched a GoFundMe with the hope of raising £2,500 to cover some of the bills. Mrs Hewson recalled: “He was at the back door waiting to be fed so I fed him and he went round the back of the garden and went down the lane. Obviously, when all this happened, we were not aware of any kind. from her.

“So from CCTV he was sitting in the lane and this lady came, a dog on a lead and a dog on a lead. And the way the dog went around the wall, he didn’t stand a chance.

“He must have run off but we didn’t know so I suddenly became concerned because he didn’t come back to eat at night and then on Sunday morning he wasn’t there. My son said on Sunday: ‘I heard a lot of yelling and screaming outside on Saturday, I’m just worried in case something happened to the cat.’ From here we looked at our CCTV.”

She continued: “We were all in a panic, searching everywhere, our garden, neighbours’ gardens, a playground and a park behind our house. We were looking for him in the bushes, stopping dog walkers, anyone we could see around.
