Sheffield United close to signing Ki-Jana Hoever from Wolves

Sheffield United are closing in on signing Wolves defender Ki-Jana Hoever on loan, according to Alan Nixon.

Sheffield United are preparing for life back in the Championship as they look for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Chris Wilder’s side sank without a trace in the Premier League last season and will be hoping that the lower demands of the second tier will allow them to compete again.

Hoever, 22, spent the last two seasons on loan at Stoke City.

The right-back played 40 Championship games for a struggling Potters side last season and scored four goals, assisting a further five.

He also managed five assists in 15 league outings in his first spell at the club.

The Netherlands youth international has played 20 times for Wolves in the Premier League, but it seems he is once again not in Gary O’Neil’s plans and is set for another loan move to the Championship.

This time Sheffield United are lined up to do the deal with Nixon claiming the Blades will bring in two loanees, one of them Hoever.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

A solid signature

The 22-year-old has plenty of second-tier experience and thrived in a poor side last season.

Sheffield United will dominate far more games than Stoke City did and that should only help Hoever when it comes to his teamwork.

In addition to his defensive duties, he is more than capable of scoring goals and assists from right-back, and this is always a welcome trait in the modern game of football.

He has two years left on his Wolves contract and a positive year at the Blades could set him up for a permanent move next summer.

With small steps

Wilder knows what it takes to get out of the championship, but he’s working in difficult circumstances at the moment.

The Blades will have a side that should win most of their second tier games, but whether they will get promoted straight away is another question.

Their summer deal is just getting started after takeover talks stalled them at the start of the summer, but they are making positive moves now and Wilder’s side are starting to take shape.

However, the club would need some time to stabilize and settle after what was a turbulent season last time out.

Wilder has also had two jobs in the Championship since his first spell at Sheffield United and neither have gone particularly well, so it will be interesting to see if he can recapture his former form.
