Drivers fined and cars seized by police sting Coventry ‘hotspot’ retail park

Dozens of drivers have been fined and cars seized in a police operation at Coventry’s ‘hotspot’ retail park. The special operation took place at Gallagher Retail Park yesterday afternoon (July 29).

It followed what Coventry Police said were concerns about dangerous driving, illegal parking and drivers using their phones in the area. Local officers joined forces with a team from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

As a result, they issued ten fines for dangerous vehicle offences. These included several trucks carrying dangerous goods that were either too heavy or unsafe.

The team said other fines were given for not wearing seat belts, using a mobile phone while driving and not having insurance. Also, three vehicles were impounded without insurance and many other drivers received education on proper vehicle maintenance.

“This multi-agency road safety operation was based at Gallagher Retail Park where you told us you were seeing dangerous driving, illegal parking and drivers using their phones,” the team explained. “In July, you will see more police presence on the roads and in high traffic areas as we tackle the big four – speeding, mobile phone use, not wearing seat belts and drink/drug driving.”
