Huge emergency response as people fall ill after being ‘approached by woman with bag’

Police said a “number” of people suddenly became ill after being allegedly approached by a woman with a bag. Emergency services were spotted wearing protective clothing at the scene in Bath.

The incident was believed to have happened near the famous Roman baths on Monday afternoon (July 29). A woman was reportedly “subdued” at the scene, before emerging in a “large orange suit” and walking to an ambulance accompanied by “a paramedic wearing a full hazmat suit”.

Avon and Somerset Police have cordoned off the incident on Stall Street. The public has been assured that emergency services have “well-rehearsed plans to respond to such incidents”, reports the Mirror.

A spokesman for the force said: “Emergency services are responding to an incident in Bath. Around 2.30pm, a woman approached people with a bag on Stall Street, which made some people feel sick.

“The ambulance service informed us at 15.08. We are not aware of any other reports of people feeling unwell. As a precaution, emergency personnel wear protective clothing. We work with South Western Ambulance Service and Avon Fire and Rescue Service. on site and have well-prepared plans to respond to such incidents.”

One witness said: “They picked up a woman in some blue tarpaulin sheets and it looked like they hosed her down. He must have been told to take off his clothes as he came out wearing a large orange suit that covered his body. Then she was walked. to the ambulance accompanied by what I believe was a paramedic wearing a full hazmat suit with breathing apparatus.”
