Jay Stansfield transfer update as Birmingham City rivals emerge

The pursuit of former Birmingham City loanee Jay Stansfield this summer has further intensified after Hull City were identified as the latest club to be interested in signing the striker if he was made available by Fulham in this summer transfer window.

The Blues were the beneficiaries of Stansfield’s talents last season; despite relegation to League One, he scored 13 goals and was considered their best player, despite being only 21 and experiencing Championship football for the first time. However, after Stansfield proved he can pull off the second leg, he could make things difficult for the Blues if a battle to sign him arises this summer.

It was suggested by Cottagers boss Marco Silva at the end of last season that Stansfield, who recently scored in Fulham’s 6-1 pre-season friendly win over Watford, would remain with the Premier League club in the new campaign after Blues exploits. but with Emile Smith Rowe set to arrive and join the likes of Rodrigo Muniz, Raul Jimenez, Harry Wilson and others in Fulham’s final third department, Stansfield could be allowed to make a move.

The Blues would of course be interested in bringing the forward back to St Andrew’s despite their relegation to the third tier, a division Stansfield knows well from his time at Exeter City. Whether they are able to lure the striker back on a permanent basis, despite the connection he has established with the fans and the club itself, remains to be seen – especially if Stansfield has Championship offers. Indeed, the Blues know that it will be very difficult to pull off not so much a coup as a miracle.

Cardiff City have recently been linked with a move for the striker and now Hull have emerged as the latest suitors; they lost loanee Liam Delap and released strikers Billy Sharp and Aaron Connolly at the end of their respective contracts. The Tigers also have cash to splash after selling Jaden Philogene back to Aston Villa and defender Jacob Greaves to newly-promoted Ipswich Town.
