Leicester City rival Bournemouth for international goalkeeper

Leicester City are said to have expressed an interest in Switzerland international goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo.

Linked with Celtic earlier in the transfer window before signing Kasper Schmeichel, L’Equipe report that Bournemouth and City are now keen on the 30-year-old. With one year left on his contract at French side Lorient, he would not be expensive and his club are willing to sell.

Lorient were relegated to Ligue 2 last season and Mvogo is one of the players their president has said could leave as they look to make financial savings. No goalkeeper has conceded more goals in Ligue 1 than Mvogo in the last term, although he ranked 11th out of 18 first-choice goalkeepers for save percentage.

Mvogo has a lot of experience. He came through the ranks at Young Boys and was number one for three years before moving to RB Leipzig where he was a back-up goalkeeper. He then spent two years on loan at PSV, winning the Dutch Cup, before the final two years at Lorient. Internationally, he has nine caps for Switzerland and was on their bench at Euro 2024.

City do not need a new first-choice goalkeeper, with Mads Hermansen set to stay now Chelsea have looked elsewhere, but may feel they need to strengthen the department. Last season’s deputy Jakub Stolarczyk is out for six months after ankle surgery, meaning Danny Ward is number two for now.

An exit has looked possible for Ward this summer as he looks to get his career back on track after falling out of favor since City’s relegation. The club are also looking to sell Daniel Iversen, with the Dane reportedly valued at £1.5m.
