Met Office extends storm and flood warning

The weather warning for storms and floods in the county has been extended.

The Met Office has issued a yellow storm warning for Thursday, affecting most of England, including Suffolk.

The warning has been extended with storms likely to affect the Shotley peninsula, Felixstowe and parts of the Babergh district south of Ipswich.

The extended warning comes into effect from midday on Wednesday and will last until 11.59pm on Thursday.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Although many places will remain dry, a few thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday.

“These are possible at any time, but become more likely during the afternoon and evening.”

In some areas up to 50mm of rain could fall between two hours and is likely for parts of East Anglia during the evening.

The Met Office also warned that spray and flash flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

There is also the possibility of power outages and the chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, causing damage.
