Super League squad news as Wigan Warriors get huge boost, Leigh Bailey Hodgson update, Castleford names debutants

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet speaks to the media.

The squad news for Thursday night’s Super League fixtures has been revealed and there is some good news for Wigan Warriors.

Castleford Tigers are looking to get back to winning ways against a Leigh Leopards side that demolished St Helens last week with a big game under the Wheldon Road lights.

Craig Lingard made four changes to last week’s 21-man squad, with Luke Hooley, Sam Hall and George Griffin dropping out along with the suspended Liam Horne.

George Griffin is out due to a botched HIA at the weekend, while Sam Hall was also injured – Luke Hooley is on loan for Batley Bulldogs

Coming into the squad are Liam Watts, who returned from injury suffered by the Catalans Dragons two weeks ago, and Daniel Hindmarsh-Takyi, who has made just one Super League appearance since signing from NSW Cup side Northern Pride.

In addition, two new names are included – Akim Matvejev and Jenson Windley, who played in the reserve team this year.

Leigh Leopards see Gareth O’Brien drop the only change for their side – and it’s a direct change as new signing Bailey Hodgson moves into the squad for a potential debut against his former side, where he made his Super League debut like a teenager.

Jacob Douglas and the injured Brad O’Neill are the two who leave Matt Peet’s side.

Wigan have named Sam Eseh in the side after a loan spell at Leeds Rhinos, confirming he has been recalled.

Eseh has impressed at prop for the Rhinos with five appearances, three starts and three wins during his time at Headingley.

However, the big news is the surprise return of Jai Field to the team.

Last week, both Matt Peet and Jai Field said it would be “a few” games before they return to action, but he is named and could be back in two days.

Meanwhile, the Giants made four changes to the side beaten by Leeds Rhinos last week, with Sam Hewitt and Andre Savelio both returning after being suspended for two games following Grade D charges.

Also returning to the side are Thomas Deakin and Seb Ikahihifo.

Ashton Golding, Jack Bibby, Jack Billington and Connor Carr drop out.
