Fallout Mission: London Catching Up – Dove’s Dilemma Location

Fallout: London is a full DLC-sized mod full of loot to discover and missions to complete. Some of the best parts of official Bethesda RPGs always come from the side quests, and Fallout: London is no different, with plenty of interesting characters – each with their own backstory – waiting to meet the Lab Rat Wanderer at every corner.

An early example of this is the mission Catching Up, in which one of the oldest of the Vagabonds – Sabertooth Syd – asks the wanderer for a special favor: help to finally learn to read.

When Wanderer accepts, Syd is over the moon, but she also has another request. If it’s not too much trouble, can the Wanderer look for their favorite childhood book, The Pigeon’s Dilemma?

Armed with a list of desired reading material, Wanderer sets off in search of a library in the nearby town of Bromley to begin the Caching Up!

Fallout: London Catching Up quest guide – where to find the cards

After talking to Sabertooth Syd in the Swan and Miter pub in South East London, he asks for your help in learning to read.

He is ashamed of his illiteracy so he wants you to keep him on the ground, but you need to get him some “proper books” that are basic enough to learn with – 3 or 4 canned books should do the trick . Syd then specifically asks Dove’s Dilemma – a story from when she was a child – if you can find it.

You get a quest marker to the south on the same road as Nadia’s trading post on Bromley High Street.

Follow the marker and enter the Churchill Library and you’ll quickly discover that the right wing needs a key to enter.

Before you go looking for the key, go back and interact with the library terminal behind you. In the book pull-down menu, you’ll see that Dove’s Dilemma has been verified by a Jane Doe to read in the right wing – so now you have somewhere to look!

How to open the Right Wing of the Churchill Library

To open the Right Wing of the Churchill Library, you must go upstairs to the director’s office, where you will find a wild ghoul roamer that must be defeated.

Next to the terminal in the head librarian’s office, you find the key to the book room. This can be used to open the locked door where you find the books.

Next, take a look in the basement and find the book return terminal for the overdue books you find scattered around the library, as well as the door that needs the forbidden book room key.

To open the Forbidden Book Room, return to the basement and enter the bathroom. In the sink inside the first booth, you’ll find the keys and a pair of glasses – useful if you chose the four eyes trait.

Where to find books for Syd

Through the locked door, things get hectic quickly. You are attacked by 4 wild ghouls in quick succession, but after that you are free to explore.

Remember, don’t just look for generic book/textbook articles, but for specific, named volumes.

First, go upstairs to the computer area and get the Highly Radiant Caterpillar and Larry Crocker and Fission Chamber from the shelves, then get Little Miss Uranium from the yellow box downstairs.

Where to find the Pigeon’s Dilemma

To get the Pigeon’s Dilemma, look for the obviously overturned cardboard box on top of the bookcase, above the hole you use to get to the second floor of the right wing.

Either hold interact to pick him up and move him, or hit him with a weapon to send him flying.

Below is Dove’s Dilemma.

Return to Syd at Swan and Miter and he’s obviously pleased that you managed to find the reading material. With various special traits and stats, you can understand how excited he is to revisit Dove’s Dilemma. He gives you Syd’s tissue, as well as his lucky black pool ball, which gives you the Lucky Eight Ball perk, which is good for an extra point of SPECIAL Luck (and a good chunk of XP).

If that’s a bit of a bummer for you though, completing this quest gives you another direction – Memories of Syd – where you help old Sabertooth write down some of his memories.

But if all that didn’t make you feel warm and fuzzy enough, maybe you should go find Churchill?
