New music venue and record store, Grub Records officially opens in Sheffield – News

A new venue, record store and wine bar – Grub Records – has opened in Queens Road, Sheffield.

The venue officially opened its doors on Friday (July 26), following several soft launch events in recent weeks – including taking over from Mondo Radio – and is now open every Wednesday to Sunday.

The record store was set up with the aim of “filling a gap in Sheffield’s dance music offering” and becoming “a worthy addition to the city’s wonderful scene” – adding to its thriving hub of “DIY music and culture”.

Some of those involved in the release include Apricot Ballroom, Control, Groundwork, Footprints Jazz Club, Mondo Radioand DJ duo Wow & Flutter.

Grub Records have also launched a Crowdfunder to try and raise £2500 to ‘get off the ground’. The money raised will “help us make the store beautiful and launch plans for interior decoration, as well as stock the shelves with as many killer records as possible.”

They continued: “Overall we’ve donated around £10,000 worth of equipment, records and money, but helping us get up and running faster will mean a wider range of genres on the shelves from day one, allowing -to diversify the selection of available styles and create a space with something for everyone.”

The opening of a new record store and venue is welcome news after a year of venue closures which has seen an average of five independent music venues close a week across the UK.
