As it happened: Bus fire closes road ‘for some time’

A warning has been issued to motorists after a bus fire closed roads in Leicestershire. Motorists were urged to avoid the area.

The incident happened on Barwell’s Hinckley Road. A closure was in place between Ashby Road and St Marys Avenue. Police warned the closure could be in place for “some time”.

Traffic is easing now

Just before rush hour, traffic eased in the area.

We are yet to find out if bus services are still affected.

Stagecoach posted on X that the impact of the Arriva bus fire has affected some of its services.

Recovery in progress

Work is now underway to recover the bus, a large crane was used to lift the bus onto a flatbed truck.

Statement from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service released a statement, saying:

“We received a call at 11:48 a.m. of a large vehicle on fire. On arrival crews found a bus well alight. Two appliances from Hinckley and Coalville both attended the incident.”

The fire has now been extinguished and efforts are being made to remove the bus from the road.

Barwell Parish Council told LeicestershireLive that the fire had been put out.

Road closures are still in place.
