Health care costs for retirees rise nearly 5% to $165,000 — more than double the 2002 rate

A 65-year-old retiring this year can expect to spend an average of $165,000 on health care and medical expenses during retirement — up nearly 5 percent from a year ago and more than two times the 2002 forecast, according to Fidelity Investments.
