Obama official Peggy Moore and her wife die in a car accident in California

A former campaign worker for former President Barack Obama and her wife were killed in a car crash in California last week, according to police.

Peggy Moore, 60, and Hope Wood, 48, were passengers in a Jeep truck that collided with a sedan on Highway 76 near Fallbrook, according to NBC Bay Area.

Both died in the accident.

The 60-year-old driver of the jeep and the driver of the sedan also died in the wreck. A third passenger in the Jeep survived.

Moore was the only victim named by the coroner, but online tributes later revealed the names of the other slain victims, including her wife.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee remembered the women of a post on X/Twitter.

She said she was friends with Moore, calling her “a friend, an activist and one of the best organizers I’ve ever known.”

“Her passion and fight for justice and equality is what brought her together with Hope,” she wrote. “Together they organized, changed hearts and minds, and helped create a world where who you love doesn’t limit your freedoms.”

She said the women “have had an impact on our community, our city, our state and our nation that will be felt for generations to come.”

“Saddened by the tragic death of Peggy Moore,” said Rusty Hicks, chairman of the California Democratic Party. in a post on X/Twitter. “She was an incredible political talent and a member of the CADEM team who brought a passion for organizing and a commitment to justice every day.”

Ms. Schaff recalled Moore’s friendly demeanor and how he would run into people he knew wherever he went.

“You couldn’t go anywhere with Peggy without it taking two hours,” Ms. Schaff said KRON4. “She knew every person. For her, politics was deeply personal. It was about connecting through our differences. let’s raise our common hopes and only love.”

She shared that people close to the couple took some comfort in knowing that the women died instantly and that they died together.

“A lot of her friends and family are shocked by — kind of comforted by the fact that they left right away,” she said. “That they went instantly without pain, and that they went together.”

Moore and Wood met while campaigning for then-presidential candidate Mr Obama in 2008.

In 2019, they co-founded the consulting and coaching firm Hope Action Change, which focused on diversity and equality.

Moore previously served as campaign manager for former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff and was a senior adviser in Ms. Schaff’s office from 2015 to 2017, according to her LinkedIn page.

She also served as general counsel for the successful campaign of District Attorney Diana Betcon of Contra Costa County, California.
