Supergrand dead: TV icon Gudrun Ure passes away as fans worldwide pay tribute

Gudrun Ure, the star of the children’s show “Supergran”, appreciated worldwide, has unfortunately died at the age of 98. The news prompted fans around the world to share their heartfelt tributes in memory of the Scottish actress, who was loved for her role in the hit show which reached audiences in many countries.

The Scottish actress was best known for her starring role in the iconic children’s program from the mid-1980s. The much-loved super-hero series originally aired from 1985 to 1987 and became a global sensation, winning an Emmy . Gudrun Ure was born in Campsie, Stirlingshire, and had a varied acting career which began in 1951 with roles in well-known series such as ‘Casualty’ and ‘Midsomer Murders’.




Fans shared touching tributes and expressed their sadness on Twitter. One heartbroken viewer wrote: “So sad to hear that actress Gudrun Ure died today aged 98. Born in Milton, Campsie, she was an experienced stage and screen actress. She was much loved as Super Gran, the main character of the 1980s TV show.

Kate McNeill, Gudrun Ure’s niece, shared the sad news of her aunt’s death on a Facebook page dedicated to the actress. As The Mirror reported, she said her aunt was a “genuinely kind” person who derived joy from her association with her most famous role. She shared a fond memory of her last visit in December with Ure, where she was excited about the potential reboot of “Supergran” into a movie and recalled interacting with celebrities like George Best, who were featured on the show.

Upon her death, fans took to social media to express their grief. One posted: “Sad news Supergran AKA Gudrun Ure has passed away aged 98.” Another expressed his sincere emotions saying: “Ah no! I loved Supergran. Thanks for the memories Gudrun.”

Another recalled the show’s impact saying: “Supergran was a great show for the kids and the theme song was an absolute blast. This is sad news #RIPGudrunUre.” Another individual reflected: “Ah no! I was just telling the kids about her last week. Sleep tight Supergran.” One devoted fan paid tribute to her as ‘a serious grandma’, offering a simple ‘RIP’. The theme of cherished childhood experiences was picked up by another admirer who posted: “Childhood memories..”

And in another statement of the high esteem in which she was held, one user said: “She was and always will be a legend.” Tributes continued to pour in, with one person recalling: “Oh no. Remember Supergran, theme song sung by Billy Connolly”. Another person expressed their grief by sharing, “Interrupted by this. A massive, massive part of my youth. When things were so innocent. Sleep well, gorgeous.”
