Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube, has died “after two years of living with cancer,” Alphabet CEO Sunder Pichai wrote on X, adding that he was “incredibly saddened by the loss.” She was 56 years old.

“She is as central to Google’s history as anyone, and it’s hard to imagine the world without her,” Pichai continued. “She was an incredible person, leader and friend who had a tremendous impact on the world, and I am one of the countless Googlers who are better off for knowing her. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts are with her family. RIP Susan.”

On Facebook, her husband, Dennis Troper, wrote Friday night: “My beloved wife of 26 years and mother of our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer.”

“Susan was not only my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many,” the Troper wrote.

Wojcicki started working at Google in 1999 and was CEO of YouTube from 2014 to 2023.

Google representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
