Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola compared his side’s final Premier League game of the season to serving for Wimbledon.

A fourth consecutive league crown is within City’s grasp after beating Tottenham 2-0 on Tuesday night.

The result meant Guardiola’s side moved two points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table – and will be crowned champions if they beat West Ham at home on the final day of the season on Sunday (4pm BST).

“Tennis players say ‘serving to win Wimbledon’, the last game, is the most difficult,” Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day after his side’s win at Spurs.

“We know what we are playing for. The tension is there.”

City, of course, have a great record when the title has come down to the last day.

It has happened nine times before in the Premier League era, with the Citizens involved on each of the last four occasions and crowned champions each time.

Opta analysts give Guardiola’s team an 84% chance of lifting the title.

And no side that started the last day not in first place ended it as champions.

“Everyone comes to the stadium and makes noise,” added Guardiola. “We’ll have a day off, two days to prepare and then we’ll do our best.”

Ederson had eye problems, not concussion – Guardiola

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson and star midfielder Kevin de Bruyne were substituted with injuries on Tuesday.

Ederson was caught by Cristian Romero in the second half and briefly looked in serious pain as he received treatment on the pitch, but Guardiola later confirmed that the Brazilian had not suffered a concussion.

“He had a problem with his eye, he couldn’t see well so the doctor said I should change,” he added.

Ederson was unhappy when he was substituted, kicking into the box coolly from the edge of the box, although substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega did superbly to keep out a one-on-one chance from Spurs captain Son Heung-min after what entered

Guardiola said De Bruyne had an ankle injury.
