Man in wheelchair shot dead in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A man was shot and killed in his wheelchair Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened in the 100 block of North 59th Street just before 3 p.m. The man died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation shows that the victim and other people were on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle approached the group and someone started shooting and left the scene.

The victim’s brother told WBRC that he suffered from ALS.

No one is in custody. It is not known who the intended target was.
