Goalkeeper Jones to leave Birmingham City

Birmingham City’s teenage goalkeeper Lucy Jones is leaving the club this summer.

The 19-year-old announced the news that she was moving on in a post on her personal X account a little while ago.

Jones has spent the past six seasons with the Blues, successfully negotiating his way through the club’s youth ranks before playing for the first team. The youngster made her Barclays Women’s Super League debut for Birmingham City in 2022 when she came off the bench to play in a 2-1 defeat by Leicester City at St Andrew’s. Jones went on to be named in the Birmingham City squad on 30 occasions.

With Birmingham City unable to guarantee Jones first-team minutes this season, the player joined FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division side West Bromwich Albion on a dual registration basis. She helped The Baggies to a ninth place finish. Jones made 12 appearances for West Bromwich Albion in all competitions.

The England youth international is highly rated and, having gained some experience at West Bromwich Albion, will now be hoping to push for the number one shirt at her next club. Jones’ plans for next season are not yet known.
