So much, Seine. Hello gridlock!

The 2024 Olympics come to a close tonight with a final Parisian salute and a Hollywood salute as Paris hands over the torch to Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Games. The handover is a last chance for Paris to to celebrate what was widely credited as a great Olympics, with outstanding performances from several athletes, including Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky, and a chance for LA to give the world a taste of what to expect in four years.

And the Californian city looks set to lean toward its movie roots, with widespread reports that Tom Cruise will make a major appearance and perform a stunt during the closing ceremonies.

While the closing ceremonies are generally not as commanding as the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, they are still a celebration of the Games that showcase the athletes coming together. And the Olympic fever increased with the Paris Games. Nearly 29 million tuned in at the opening ceremony in Paris on July 26, according to Nielsen.
