What Liverpool are really thinking now to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle

With just one game of the season to go, attention now turns to Liverpool’s potential summer deal.

The biggest news at Anfield in the summer is clearly the change in the dugout. It will be fascinating to see Arne Slot take over from Jurgen Klopp.

But beyond that, there is still work to be done for the first team. No major surgery is required, but Liverpool could just upgrade one or two key areas.

As part of this consolidation, it has been claimed that the Reds will be looking for a new wide forward to bolster their current options.

Strangely, one potential target is rumored to be Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon. With Gordon enjoying an excellent season on Tyneside, journalist Ben Jacobs pondered whether Liverpool could indeed sign the former Everton winger.

What’s going on with Liverpool and Anthony Gordon

He may not be Liverpool supporters’ favorite player, but there’s no denying that Gordon has had a very good campaign.

With 10 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League, the 23-year-old has deservedly broken into England’s senior team.

As a pacey player with direct goals, Gordon could be just what Liverpool are looking for. However, being a high-profile former Everton player, a transfer seems quite unlikely.

And writing for The Daily Briefing, Jacobs claims that, according to his information, the Reds are not planning to make a move for Gordon.

“Newcastle have no intention of selling Anthony Gordon either, despite recent links with Liverpool,” proclaims the journalist.

“And from what I’m told, there’s actually no interest from Liverpool. It is true that Liverpool are planning a striker or a winger. Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville is a name they have discussed but targets are still being finalised.”

Is Crysencio Summerville a good alternative

With Gordon a bit of a non-starter, it’s interesting to see exactly where Liverpool will turn for a wide signing.

Summerville is one that has already been mentioned quite a bit. Having won the player of the season award in the Championship with Leeds this year, he is a fascinating option.

Predominantly playing on the left as a right-footer, the Dutchman looks like a potential direct replacement for Luis Diaz.

It is not yet certain that Diaz will leave this summer, but as links with PSG intensify, we may have to prepare for that eventuality.

If this happens, the Columbian will need to be replaced. Gordon won’t be the man to take on this assignment, but Summerville is definitely one to watch.
