A huge fire rips through the Coventry Hotel

Fire crews attended another fire at the former Allesley Hotel in Coventry last night. Smoke was seen coming out of the derelict hotel in Birmingham Road last night (May 5).

West Midlands Fire Service Control sent crews from Coventry, Binley, Canley and Foleshill to the scene just before 7pm. Firefighters discovered a fire had started in what was the “great room” on the ground floor.

A fire service spokesman told CoventryLive that the first and second floors of the building were “100 per cent smoke”. Crews struggled to put out the flames on the ground floor.

“They then carried out a search of the building as a precaution, but no people were found,” the fire department spokesman added. Crews were on scene for two hours, with the last engine leaving just after 9 p.m.

Police are understood to have been called to the scene. We have contacted West Midlands Police for comment.

Last night’s incident at the hotel was the second in a few months, as there was a fire at the hotel in February. At its peak, 50 firefighters were called to action at the once popular venue.

The former hotel has been the target of several arson attacks since it was closed. It is not yet known what caused the latest fire.
