£10m Leeds United ace eyed January deal as he only has one year left on contract, 49ers should move again

Leeds play the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final against Norwich City tomorrow with the tie still in the balance following a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road on Sunday.

With home advantage behind them, the Whites know a win would send them within 90 minutes of an immediate return to the Premier League.

A victorious play-off campaign for the first time in the club’s history would make for a very interesting window as Leeds look to build a squad capable of sustaining their top-flight status.

However, 49ers Enterprises know that key sales would have to be made if they don’t win the play-offs to comply with the EFL’s PSR rules.

Leeds could land a summer deal for Ben Davies after January interest

As mentioned, the summer is likely to be much busier for Leeds than the most recent January window where Connor Roberts was the one and only signing.

Strengthening right-back was Leeds’ priority after the New Year, but they looked at other positions including left-back, centre-back and right-back.

There have certainly been some ambitious names on Leeds’ wishlist, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Ben Davies perhaps the most given how involved he has been under Ange Postecoglou this season.

Unsurprisingly, a deal never materialized for £10m man Davies, but that shouldn’t stop Leeds from taking another look this summer as he only has one year left on his contract .

Postecoglou has already confirmed that there will be big changes to Spurs’ squad in the coming months and if that happens, it could open the door for Davies’ exit.

Leeds’ chances of signing Davies would of course be boosted if they win promotion, but he shouldn’t be ruled out of dropping out of the Championship alongside some of his Welsh counterparts.

Davies would not only bring much needed experience to Leeds’ squad but is also very capable of playing in both central defense and left back.

With Liam Cooper set to leave, Leeds will have no natural cover for the injured Pascal Struijk. Junior Firpo, meanwhile, is Farke’s only natural left-back and is also only 12 months into his contract. All of these factors make a deal a problem.

Firpo could leave this summer, adding to Leeds’ left-back needs

Firpo has arguably enjoyed his best season in a Leeds shirt since joining from Barcelona three years ago, but this summer could bring his spell at Elland Road to an end.

Phil Hay reported in March that Firpo was unlikely to be offered a new deal, and with his contract expiring in 2025, this would be Leeds’ last chance to land a fee for him.

That would only increase Leeds’ need for two new left-backs to come in this summer, and Davies’ versatility and experience means he is someone who fits the bill.
