Leicester City join Luton in the Sammie Szmodics race

Leicester City have joined Luton Town and Sheffield United in their pursuit of Blackburn Rovers striker Sammie Szmodics, according to a report by GiveMeSport.

Leicester City are reportedly lining up a move for the striker as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. They have secured immediate promotion from the Championship under the guidance of former Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca as they prepare for a big summer ahead.

Szmodics, 28, is expected to be a man in demand in the upcoming transfer window and Blackburn Rovers will face a real battle to keep hold of him amid interest from elsewhere. His contract at Ewood Park runs until June 2026.

In this latest update on his situation by GiveMeSport, the Foxes have joined relegated pair Luton Town and Sheffield United in the race for his signature. Meanwhile, West Ham’s links with him have cooled.

Szmodics would be an attractive addition for Leicester City if they could lure him to the King Power Stadium and strengthen their attacking department.

He finished this past campaign as the second-tier top scorer after scoring 27 league goals. The Ireland international, who has two caps under his belt so far, has fired 33 in all competitions.

Blackburn Rovers signed him in 2022 and he has since become their most prized asset.

The Essex man found the net on seven occasions in his first year and has really picked it up since.

Before moving to Lancashire he had spells at Colchester United as well as Bristol City and Peterborough United.

Leicester City will need attacking reinforcements over the next two months, especially if Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy are out of contract next month.

Szmodics needs to test himself at the top level and this would be the ideal chance for him to do so.

Leicester City could give him regular game time and give him the platform to show what he can do.

As for Luton Town and Sheffield United, they are back in the Football League and it would be ideal for both. However, it would be a little surprising to see him traded to a team in the same league.
