Leeds United have loaned Robin Koch to Eintracht Frankfurt for the final year of his contract and it was an inspired move from the centre-back, now called up to Germany’s Euro 2024 squad.

Not many Leeds fans would be able to generate much sympathy for the loan players who have left the club after relegation and are struggling, nor muster much praise for those who are doing well.

Robin Koch is one of those who can be considered to have made the right decision in leaving Leeds for pastures new after the 22/23 season.

Robin Koch has called up the German national team for Euro 2024

The return to the Bundesliga has paid off for the tall centre-back, becoming a vital figure at the heart of the centre-back trio.

Confirmation came on Tuesday that the 27-year-old has been brought into Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 competition in Germany:

Koch’s inclusion comes at the expense of veteran defender Mats Hummels, who was left out despite helping Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final.

Who will win the playoffs?

Pascal Struijk reacts to the Robin Koch news this week

The German took to Instagram to react to the “huge” news of returning to the Germany set-up at just the perfect time:

“Huge anticipation and incredibly proud to be in the home European Championship squad! I will go ALL IN! Let’s start!”

Pascal Struijk was among those who congratulated the defender:

Koch revived his career after leaving Leeds in 2023

Koch has not been someone many fans have lost sleep over since he left, as he has been very disappointing in his last two seasons.

Our shocking defensive form wasn’t going to help him, though, and it’s clear that a more solid structure would have helped.

He is better suited to the Bundesliga than the Premier League, and that has led to international recognition.
